Kiddies Lunchbox Ideas:    

Shraya's Lunchbox


These are samples of what I pack and swop around. I also add a little note for the girls in their lunch bag daily..see notes

1. Chelsea buns slices, jam bread, polony slices, peeled naartjie (nectarine/orange family), bottled water, homemade popcorn

2. Noodles with viennas, fruit (small apple), yoghurt (with spoon), water, a biscuit

3. Hotdogs, popcorn, water, mini choc, a biscuit, bunch of grapes, carrot slices

4. Mini pitas filled with chicken, salad cream and diced cucumber, watermelon slices, water, yoghurt, spoon, bottle of water

5. Penne pasta with chicken cubes and pasta sauce, fork, bottled water, popcorn, slice of homemade choc cake (if available), small banana, bottled water.

6. Mini sausages, buttered bread, cucumber and carrots sliced, bottled water, ostrich or springbok biltong, mini packet baked chips (called Flings in South Africa), sliced peaches

7. Mini croissants (straight from the shop's table - no preheating - remove from packaging and use) filled with cold meat and baby spinach, little salad cream, strawberries, bottled water, custard and jelly (with spoon)

8. Mini pizzas (bake the frozen ones), yoghurt with spoon, bottled water, boiled egg, fresh berries and small apple

9. French bread slices with chicken kebabs, cucumber and carrot slices, bottled water, banana muffin or flapjacks (homebaked), pear

10. Cold meat sandwiches with lettuce and tomato, bottled water, popcorn, yoghurt with spoon, mini bar one, fruit salad (papaya, grapes, strawberries - all chopped up)

Ps. Popcorn - I pop on the stovetop - add to a medium size pot a tablespoon of neutral taste coconut oil, heat oil on medium high and add the kernels. Place the lid and wait until y
ou hear a pop. Reduce heat a little - once popping slows done - switch off. Pour all the popped corn onto a large dish and sprinkle a little fine salt. Once cooled package them in little zip lock snack bags - awesome school treat!


Lunchbox Notes:  Ever since Mishalia and Shraya started school and I was working,  I always placed a note in their lunchbox. It was the highlight of their day to open their lunch bag and see Mommy's handwriting. I used to draw little pics when they could not read and write little notes when they started reading. These notes made reference to something that happened the day before...for example..see note in pic of the scraped knee - because Mishalia was so brave the day before when she hurt her knee.
